Neither Queen Elizabeth II nor the President of the United States can acknowledge that the most literate 50 percent of their citizens even exist. Furthermore their most trusted advisors and ministers regularly advertise for and hire employees with 'excellent communications skills', which is simply another term for the language skills of a ten-year-old child. In government offices, those who understand, necessarily play second fiddle to those who are understood.
Learning is not necessarily a matter of listening to chatterbox mediocities running off at the mouth like some sandwich all the live long day. But life at the typical school on this planet is a matter of literacy prevention. However since success is the leading indicator of a mediocre ability with words, one needs to consider very carefully the compromise between literacy and success.
The idea that literacy is genetically transmitted from generation to generation is absurd. The idea that those who learn to read well are born mentally gifted is absurd. The idea that the most successful politicians and corporate executives have a mental age of 10.8 years is a point blank fact. Nothing more sophisticated than a television set is needed to determine that the ability to talk incessantly is essential to life on earth. Here is a world where rabbits talk. Cars talk. Trees talk. Horses talk. Bugs Bunny talks. Mice talk. Rats talk. Ducks talk. If Einstein himself makes an appearance as he occasionally does, his part will be played by someone with an IQ of 100 who never shuts up.
Truly ungodly sums of money are spent every year in virtually every educational jurisdiction in the never ending quest to prove that intellectual mediocrity is superior to all other possibilities. For our most literate children, high schools are insane asylums or torture chambers. Yet even this pales compared to what they will face when it is time to go to work.
Education doesn't work in Alaska. Education doesn't work in Florida. Education doesn't work in Kalgoorlie, Australia and education doesn't work in Manchester, England. The one thing about IQ tests that any politician or school board trustee truly appreciates is that he can keep the scores secret. Keeping his constituents uninformed and misinformed is absolutely essential to his life style.

Well over half of the population of Toronto, Canada has been replaced with immigrants during the past forty years by people who have utterly no knowledge of who can read or who can write.
